John is the Research Director of Gene Editing driving proof of concept of Pencil’s gene modulation platform. John has broad expertise in the development of cell and gene therapy technologies and has over two decades of experience in human genetics and epigenetics. with over 10 years in industry (biotech and pharma).

He received his Ph.D in Biotechnology and Protein Sciences from The University of Reading in 2009.

John loves a technological challenge and is motivated to create novel tools that can make a real world impact. He is a strong advocate for nucleic acid based therapies.
